Auto Electronics FAQs

Is your shop equipped to handle complex computer issues in new cars?

Yes. We have invested heavily in the latest dealership-level diagnostic scanners and software. Our ASE-certified technicians are continuously trained on the complex computer systems and modules in modern domestic and import vehicles. We can accurately diagnose and repair issues with the ECU, TCU (Transmission Control Unit), BCM (Body Control Module), and other integrated electronic systems.

Can a bad sensor really affect my car’s performance?

Absolutely. Modern vehicles rely on dozens of sensors—like oxygen (O2) sensors, mass airflow sensors, and coolant temperature sensors—to send critical data to the main computer (ECU). This data controls the air-fuel mixture, ignition timing, and transmission shifting. A single faulty sensor can lead to poor fuel economy, rough idling, failed emissions tests, and even cause serious engine or transmission damage if ignored.

What’s the difference between an alternator and a starter?

The starter is a small motor that uses a large burst of energy from the battery to turn the engine over and start the car. The alternator, on the other hand, is your car's electrical generator. Once the engine is running, the alternator recharges the battery and powers all of your vehicle's electrical systems. A bad starter means your car won't start, while a bad alternator will cause your car to die while running as the battery drains.

Why does my car battery keep dying?

While a failing battery is a common cause, a persistent issue often points to a "parasitic drain." This happens when an electrical component, like a faulty relay, interior light, or computer module, continues to draw power even after the car is turned off. Our technicians can perform a parasitic drain test to systematically identify and isolate the component causing the power loss, ensuring the problem is fixed at its source.

What are the common signs of a car electrical problem?

Common signs include your car not starting, the check engine light coming on, dimming or flickering headlights and interior lights, a battery that frequently dies, fuses that repeatedly blow, or a burning plastic smell. You might also notice dashboard gauges behaving erratically or power accessories like windows and seats not working correctly.
